EXPERIENCE LOCAL SPRING FLOWERS IN WINTER
Our commitment to the four pillars of sustainability is the foundation of our local winter tulip program. By cultivating these beautiful flowers right here in the city during the winter months, we ensure that our practices genuinely benefit the environment, the local economy, and the well-being of our community members.
From a social and economic perspective, we are deeply invested in local collaboration. We partner with small, diverse businesses for everything from digital infrastructure to providing convenient local pickup points, which reduces transportation emissions.
We prioritize the human element by offering a clean, local alternative to heavily imported flowers. Unlike many imported blooms that are sprayed, fumigated at entry, and often weeks old, our tulips are pesticide-free and incredibly long-lasting.
Finally, our dedication to the environmental pillar ensures responsible stewardship of our local resources. We ecologically cultivate our tulip bulbs, eliminating fertilizer runoff into our local water systems.
During the winter and early Spring months, the tulips are grown hydroponically indoors with minimal inputs such as LED lights and water. We grow tulips as an annual crop, and we only work with the highest quality bulbs and advanced techniques to produce beautiful and long lasting flowers.
Our Winter operation is fully circular. We compost 100% of our green waste through the Urban Canopy. In return, we get high quality compost to amend our flower beds from April through November.
By choosing our locally grown tulips, customers can enjoy our flowers for 6-9 days, if, they are kept away from heat sources, and sunny windows. Tulips need clean water and the stems cut with every water change. CSA customers enjoy a farm to vase experience which guarantees the freshest blooms of the season. Our tulips come in various interesting forms, including specialty doubles (multi layered), parrots, bicolors, and fringed tulips.
We are excited to offer these fantastic and unique flowers to our vibrant community, Flower Club members, businesses, DIYers, and designers.
As a Flower Club CSA member you will receive 6 bouquets from January through March. As a customer, you can find them online on our website for the holidays and special events.
For Valentine’s Day, Easter and Mother’s Day, we are collaborating with local shops in Chicago through pre-orders.
