We cultivate specialty flowers in harmony with nat

We cultivate specialty flowers in harmony with nature. What does this mean?

✅ We pay attention to the inputs we apply to our soil. We use aged compost, mushroom compost, and we feed the microbes with organic fertilizers made from plants and fish.

✅ we also plant cover crops in new flower beds, and during the transition in between seasons. Cover crops’ roots feed the good microbes in the soil.

✅ The biome that lives in the soil
Stays healthy with consistent watering and by avoiding the use of synthetic fertilizers, fungicides and pesticides.

✅ We invest in biological control of pests, and disease with OMRI listed products, which is listed on the label. OMRI is an international nonprofit organization that determines which input products are allowed for use in organic production.

✅ Healthy soil allows nutrient uptake by the plants. This translates in healthy and safe plants for cutting and for feeding our local and migrant pollinators.

We wanted to share some of the visitors we spotted in our 3 urban gardens this summer. We have also spotted birds such as Robins, the American Goldfinch and hummingbirds 🤩💐😍

We love the work we do. We are so grateful for the neighbors who lend us the land to create pretty and diverse flowering ecosystems. We take pride in supporting life while lifting the spirits of local passerby’s.

We are offering fresh gift bouquets through the end of October and locally grown tulip bouquets from Mid December through Mother’s Day.

This weekend we were at @fallnaturefest and event

This weekend we were at @fallnaturefest and event organized by @commissionerdegnen . We loved meeting so many new flower fans!

Fall is the season to enjoy some indoor events, such as floral workshops. We create something beautiful that we can gift around the holidays and enjoy throughout the winter.

We offer workshops at multiple locations in the City of Chicago and Evanston, but we also facilitate private and corporate events.

We have a wonderful collaboration with @flansglass in September. We are gardenscaping in stained glass. This class is currently sold out.

There are a few spots left for our florascaping pressed flower workshop at @rxchicago on October 5th. You can find tickets on our website or Eventbrite.

We have more floral workshops coming up and we’ll be announcing the classes to our newsletter subscribers first. Locations are @smallgatheringart @theecoflamingo @evanstonrebuild and @therefilleri

Our dahlias started blooming a month ago. The word is that this has been a challenging season for dahlias.

This is my second year growing them with mixed results. Some varieties are performing better than others. Some of them will just start blooming next week.

We focus on soil health over high productivity. Overall, we are doing better than last year. We moved from growing dahlias in containers to growing them In soil and raised beds.

Dahlias don’t like a soggy environment, but they need moist soil to keep the roots happy. This is challenging to maintain in containers and raised beds.

Dahlias also prefer full sun. At least 8 hours. One of our growing areas is only part Sun. Which means reduced productivity, but we are getting blooms and long stems.

Last year we didn’t have disease in dahlias. This year we are seen powdery mildew in some varieties. Despite the challenges, we are enjoying a wonderful dahlia season.
